Surya Namaskar---Sun Salutation

Yoga denotes union of one’s consciousness or soul with the universal consciousness or spirit. It  is  a 5000 year old Indian body of knowledge. Although many people consider yoga to be set of physical exercise where people tend to twist , turn and do exercise but  its ultimate aim is to lead an individual to the path of self- realization and self- development. Yoga tends to  a peaceful mind and therefore tends to lead to spiritual growth. In modern scientific era, medicine tend to suppress  your diseases  but doesn’t cure from within. But yoga tends to calm body from within and cure the diseases from within the body.

So let’s begin with foremost yoga technique and highly beneficial for all the organs.

Surya Namaskar

Surya Namaskar means to greet the Sun . It will help your body to absorb sun’s rays which tend to create soothing effect and refreshes  your mind. It comprise of 12 very powerful  asanas to enrich you and your soul.


  • Pranayama --- Prayer Pose

    Stand on the edge of your mat. Keep your feet together and balance your weight equally on both the feet and relax your shoulders too. Slowly expand your chest and breathe in while raising your hands from sides and bring them forth on your chest in a prayer position.


  • Hastauttanasana----Raised arms pose

    Slowly breathing in raise your arms and up and stretch your whole body from heels to top as much possible . Make sure that your biceps touches your ear and they shouldn’t be bend from your elbow.


  • Hasta Padasana----Hand to foot pose

    Breathing out bend your body forward touching your feet and slowly exhale while doing this step. Bring your hands down to your feet as soon as you exhale out your last breath. You can bend your knees slightly if you are having trouble In touching your feet but it’s better to keep them straigh


  • Ashwa Sanchalanasana ---Equestrian pose

    Breathing in push your left leg back as far as possible. Bring the right leg forward and look up as far as up possible.


  • Dandasana---- Stick Pose

    As you breathe in take your left back too and keep your back straight. Make sure to keep your arms perpendicular to the floor.


  • Ashtanga Namaskara--- Salute with 8 points

    Slowly bring your body to touch the floor and then raise your hips/posterior slightly up the floor. Make your that while lying on floor your chest , hands , feet ,knees  and chin should touch the floor.


  • Bhujangasana

    Slowly slide forward and raise your chest . You can keep your elbows bent in this pose. Make sure to bend your back properly without putting strain on it.


  • Parvatasana--- Mountain Pose

    Breathing out raise your hips and tail bone as high as possible and chest downwards in an inverted V shape.


  • Ashwa Sanchalanasana

    Repeat the step 4 but now with another leg . Rest of the steps are same.


  • Hasta Padasana

    Breathing out bring the left foot forward and keep your palms on the floor.


  • Hastauttanasana

    Breathing in, roll the spine up, hands go up and bend backwards a little bit, pushing the hips slightly outward.


  • Tadasana

    As you exhale, first straighten the body, then bring the arms down. Relax in this position, observe the sensations in your body.

    These are the steps for surya namaskar . Do them regularly and rejuvenate your mind , body and soul.
